North Wessex AONB

North Wessex is sort of the gateway between South West and South East England. Made up of the counties of Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Wilshire….all the shire’s.

You will find here, the largest megalithic stone circle in world, and the oldest chalk hill figure in Britain.

North Wessex connects straight to The Chilterns Hills AONB to the East, and they share something special….

The oldest road in Britain.

Now, it’s not used as a road anymore, but is instead a long distance walking trail, called the Ridgeway. Starting in Avebury in North Wessex,  and finishing at Ivinghoe Beacon, in the Chilterns.
